As an internet marketing specialist (or whatever we call ourselves these days), what do you think search engine optimization consulting actually entails?

After working with a client that had a horrible experience, I felt it was necessary to chime in on this topic.

After a client searched and found us on Google, he scheduled a meeting. Us & the current search engine optimization consultant.

What I am about to reveal is scary.

Out of respect, I will not call out the other company. (as I am not in the business to bash any firm) However, I will call out their short comings along with the SEO consultants responses.

Keep in mind the following when reading the below. I was told by the search engine optimization consulting rep that this site was optimized because meta keywords were put inside the website. Supposedly, he knew the vice president of Google. LOL!

Entire home page is an image (including text). See image on right. (That’s homepage)

Website is a total of a whopping 5 pages.

No call to action anywhere on website.

No social media presence whatsoever. (Accounts not even created).

Poor User Experience. (Services does not have more than 40 words of content nor link to sub-pages highlighting the difference/application of each product. No before and after pictures of product.)

Title Tag Example  (FOR SERVICES) –

No Meta Description. Absolutely nothing.

URLs are name index.html, index-1.html, etc.

No image alt defined. (left blank)

It pisses me off that this person would even call himself a SEO consultant. It gives real consultants that deliver good results a poor name. This client simply thought SEO does not work, as a result of his consultant’s major lack of internet marketing knowledge.

I’d be tempted to call it a scam. However, when all the above was brought up. The response? Oh that’s a simple fix. My response? Why wasn’t it done from launch if it was so easy? And like a politician, he danced around the question.
